Once I stabilised on the Rivotril, I started checking my other health indicators. Two years of mostly bad depression can do very nasty things your health.
Apart from the twenty something pound increase in weight, I found out I was pre-hypertensive and pre-diabetic. Luckily my heart has escaped any major negative changes during those two years (did a heart stress test, they said I was pretty okay).
In an effort to prevent me from becoming diabetic, my GP put me on Metformin Denk 500.
And I immediately started to complain that after taking the tablet, that I started to feel depression like symptoms for the rest of the day. Not quite enough to drop my functionality to zero, but still noticeable enough that I complained bitterly to my parents and my housemates. My functionality seemed to reset by the following morning, and then I would take the tablet (with breakfast or lunch) and the process would start again.
After four days, I went back to my GP and said this wasn't working. Since I have a cool GP, she agreed to change the meds to Diamicron MR 60 mg.
The Diamicron took less than two days to trigger a full on depression episode that lasted for about 6-7 days, during which my functionality dropped to zero (even though I stopped taking the Diamicron after two days).
To add insult to injury, my hard fought weight loss collapsed and I added back on 5 pounds in those 6-7 days. Yes, that's possible too.
Sometimes you can't win.
Back to the GP once the depression episode ended. This time we negotiated that in exchange for NOT taking any meds to deal with diabetes, I would drop my weight from 185 pounds to 165 pounds by 15 January 2020. I figure I can do this.
